Auveen Sands Appointed New Chief Executive Of Ulster Orchestra

The Ulster Orchestra has announced that its new Chief Executive is Auveen Sands.

She will officially move to the new role at the end of October, taking over from current Managing Director, Richard Wigley, who has been with the Orchestra since February 2016.

Richard comments:

It is with the greatest pleasure that I will hand over the reins of the wonderful Ulster Orchestra to my close colleague Auveen Sands. She is a rare individual combining as she does business acumen, creativity and a special connection with people. After 6+ years in Northern Ireland I leave with great pride at the achievements we have all made together, and great confidence in the future of this fantastic company.

Auveen has worked for the Ulster Orchestra since January 2014, fulfilling previous roles of Head of Finance and Operations and Chief Operating Officer. She states:

I am delighted to be taking over from Richard and very thankful that he is leaving the Orchestra in such a strong position. I have enjoyed my time working alongside him and although I am sorry to see him go, I look forward to leading the Ulster Orchestra at such an exciting time in its development, given its outstanding performance at the BBC Proms and its office move to Townsend Street to reside in the heart of the community.

Commenting on the new appointment Roisín McDonough, Chief Executive of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland said:

The Arts Council is delighted to welcome Auveen to her new role as Chief Executive of one of Northern Ireland’s best-loved arts ‘institutions’, the Ulster Orchestra. She brings great experience and a real insight into an orchestra that she will have seen and helped transform in recent years under the inspirational direction of her predecessor, Richard Wigley. We look forward now to seeing Auveen build on this legacy and continue to take the Ulster Orchestra to even greater heights.

Ulster Orchestra’s Music Director, Daniele Rustioni added:

I am thrilled to continue my artistic journey with the Ulster Orchestra and welcome Auveen Sands whose appointment as CEO opens a new chapter in the history of the foremost musical institution in Northern Ireland. I have no doubt that her long experience with the orchestra will bring invaluable insight to her new position and I very much look forward to working together on a variety of projects and musical adventures.
