Ulster Orchestra MD Richard Wigley issues the following statement; an update from the previous statement issued on 19 March 2020
Dear Friends You may have seen the recent Belfast Telegraph article where I was discussing our intense disappointment as musicians and administrators when we aren’t able to do what we were born to do – provide inspirational music for you all. Unfortunately, that situation still continues as it isn’t possible for all of us to get together with the risks to health that we are all familiar with. Unsurprisingly, the Waterfront Hall and Ulster Hall remain closed, and therefore there will sadly be no Ulster Orchestra concerts for the remainder of this season. Daniele and the Orchestra were looking forward to performing Bruckner and Mahler along with all the other great concerts remaining this season, but this won’t now be possible. We will do our utmost to re-schedule Mahler’s 2nd Symphony with Daniele into next season and we will seek another date for the families who booked for The Gruffalo so that ticket holders won’t miss out on these terrific concerts. However, we unfortunately won’t be in a position to reschedule the other 2019/20 season concerts. With regards to The Gruffalo, you are welcome to transfer your ticket to the alternative date, which will be announced on our website and social media as soon as it is confirmed. Regarding all ticket holders, if you would prefer a refund, then of course that is an option. However, if you are in a position to show your support for the Orchestra by not requesting a refund to help us get through these extraordinary times, we would be most grateful. Please contact the Waterfront Hall & Ulster Hall to confirm you are happy to donate the ticket value. Please keep safe and we look forward to sharing great live music with you again in the not too distant future. Richard Wigley Managing Director
